Fall Assessments at the High School

This letter from Mr. Dockins contains important information about assessments at the high school this fall.

September 7, 2021

Dear LakeVille Memorial High School Students and Parents:
This letter contains information about the optional PSAT8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, and SAT assessments available on October 13, 2021. These assessments are meant to provide an opportunity for students that were unable to take the assessments in the spring of 2021 or for those that took them, but would like to retake them.

You are receiving this communication for scheduling purposes and to provide you with the information necessary to make the decision as to whether you want your student to take these OPTIONAL assessments.

Freshmen: Freshmen can take the PSAT8/9. This test gives you, your child, and their teacher valuable information about your child's academic strengths and weaknesses, while there's still plenty of time for them to improve their skills. Again, this is an OPTIONAL test. Ninth grade students interested in taking the PSAT8/9 must sign up in the Media Center by the end of day September 13.

Sophomores: Sophomores can take the PSAT/NMSQT. This is an opportunity to take the practice test before taking the SAT, however they will be taking the PSAT 10 again in April, 2022. If your student wants to become more comfortable with standardized testing, this would be valuable. Sophomores are not eligible for the NMSQT; they must retake that test in the spring of their junior year for that program. Again, the PSAT/NMSQT is an OPTIONAL test. Sophomores that are interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT must sign up in the Media Center by the end of the day on September 13.

Juniors: Juniors can take the PSAT/NMSQT. This is a practice test for the SAT, which will be given this spring. If they do well, it is also an opportunity to be considered for the National Merit Scholarship program. Again, this is an OPTIONAL test. Juniors that are interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT must sign up in the Media Center by the end of the day on September 13.
Seniors: Seniors can take the SAT. This is an opportunity for seniors that were unable to take the SAT in the spring of 2021 or for those that wish to retake it. Again, this is an OPTIONAL test. Seniors that are interested in taking the SAT must sign up in the Media Center by the end of the day on September 13.

Please note that only students that sign up to take the assessments will be allowed to take them.

Please feel free to contact Tina Nevadomski at 810-591-4077 or cnevadomski@lakevilleschools.org with any questions or concerns.
