The following is a letter from Superintendent, Mr. Lytle:
Good Afternoon Falcon Families,
Please read this post in its entirety. Also please note, the information below is in response to local health department orders, to which we are legally bound to follow; and not necessarily the views or opinions of the District. We know these are trying times with many views and opinions, so we ask that you please be patient, respectful and understanding, as we work through these challenges.
As many of you are aware, the Genesee County Health Department has issued an Order requiring all K-6 Staff and students to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, per federal order, all staff and students, regardless of grade level, are now required to wear a mask on the bus. These orders are effective immediately.
LakeVille has a unique situation, where we have buildings in two separate Counties and under separate county jurisdictions.
Columbiaville Elementary is located in Lapeer County, to which at this time, does not have a mandated masking order, so therefore, Columbiaville Elementary is not subject to the orders of the GCHD. If Lapeer were to mandate masks, at that time, Columbiaville Elementary would be subject to that order.
The high school and the middle school are located in Genesee County. Again, the GCHD order is for all staff and students grades k-6. Understanding that the middle school is comprised of grades 5-8, the GCHD only impacts grades 5-6. As you can imagine, enforcing this order at the school level will be difficult at best. Effective Monday, August 16, Grades 5-6, staff and students, will be required to wear a mask indoors, whereas, staff and students in grades 7-8, masking will be recommended and encouraged, but not required.
We are currently working with both Lapeer and Genesee County Health Departments to determine our best course of action due to our unique location. Again, we ask you for your patience and understanding as we work through this situation.
