The Fourth Grade Field Trip to Lansing
September 17, 2009 was the annual fourth grade field trip to Lansing.  This year we took over one hundred and seventy Columbiaville students and parents to tour our state capital building and historical museum.

Every class is given a tour through the capital building.  The tours provide an up close look at how the government works while appreciating the beauty of our historic capital building.  The historical museum gives visitors a chance to learn more about Michigan history.

lansing20094.jpg Ms. Shagena’s students met and spoke with Governor Granholm.   The governor quizzed the students on Michigan facts, which the students were able to answer.  The other fourth grade classes were recognized on the floor of the Michigan House of Representatives.
The trip is a wonderful learning experience which both students and parents enjoy.  The fourth grade teachers would like to thank the Columbiaville PTS for their continued support of this learning experience.

 Falcon of the Month

We are proud to announce that Garrett was selected as November’s Falcon of the Month!

Ms. Chisholm commented on how conscientious Garrett is with his work.  He takes the time and effort to be sure he understands his assignments and what’s expected of him.  He never gives a “that’s good enough, I’m done” attitude and is always willing to revise and improve his work.  Mrs. Burkhardt spoke about how Garrett is aware of the needs of others around him.  He takes the time to assist people who are struggling or who have been absent and need to get caught up without giving away answers.  Mrs. Wood related how Garrett has a strong sense of fairness.  While others may think that being fair is having things go your way, Garrett can see the other person’s point of view and works for the common good of the class. Mrs. Lenz, his classroom teacher, told about Garret’s leadership.  He has been chosen as an elected official in his room.  He is a positive leader and sets a good example through good behavior. He’s not perfect and takes responsibility when he falls short of the mark.  He learns from his mistakes.  Garret attended a Rotary Club meeting and was honored in front of its members.  Once again, Congratulations Garrett!

Falcon of the Month - October

October's
Falcon of the Month was awarded to Kaylee from Mrs. Wood’s 5th grade classroom.  She is an outstanding student and citizen who always works extremely hard in and out of the classroom.  She is dedicated to getting the best education she can and does her part to make sure that happens.  Her kindness, helpfulness, and great work ethic is appreciated by all!  Congratulations Kaylee!  Keep up the great work!

Falcon of the Month - September

For the past seven years, the Rotary Club of Columbiaville has recognized an outstanding 5th grader from Columbiaville Elementary each month.

Lindsay is the first Falcon of the Month for this school year.  The 5th grade teachers nominated Lindsay because she has proven to be an outstanding citizen and student.  She shows compassion and respect for each student by helping others and making them feel comfortable.  Lindsay possesses a great deal of responsibility when it comes to school by completing assignments and trying her best at everything she does.

Lindsay is a student who goes above and beyond because she wants to, not because she wants to be recognized for it.  Way to go Lindsay!
